FAQ
Have a question or two before contacting us? Here we have a few answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
We understand that you and your child are excited to begin their martial arts journey and we are excited to share the experience with you. We begin taking students as young as 4 years old. They will begin in our Shadow Moogi program with other children in ages ranging from 4 - 6 years old.
Here at Sunrise Taekwondo, bullying in any format is not tolerated. We each students personal safety so that they may defend themselves, not harm others out of malice. We understand that younger students may be eager to show off what they have learned, but they may only ‘show off’ what they have learned to friends in a controlled and safe environment with our certified instructors. We even have an oath to remind students to not use their moves on anyone they know; “I promise never to use my Taekwondo on my family, friends, or pets Sir/Ma’am.”
If your child is having problem with acting like a bully at school/on the playground we can talk with them in a non-aggressive, comfortable manner to help get to the root of the problem and talking about the consequences of their actions.
While many of our clients are children, we welcome any and all ages and abilities. We have many adults that train with their children, with many joining not too long after their children due to the excitment and opportunity to bond with the child through a shared activity. We also have many older teens/adults that range from 18 – 70 years old. Martial arts is for everyone!
It is never too late to begin your martial arts journey and you do not have classes as a child to be a successful martial artist.
If you do have a child in the Shadow Moogi program, parents should attend the beginner classes labeled "White - Yellowo/Camo" so they can train the material at a more advanced level than our Moogi do. Keeping the ages seperate is also to keep safety of our youngest martial artists in mind.
If your child is 7+ you may all attend a beginner class together.
Yes! Here at Sunrise Taekwondo we are so proud to say that we accept all students. We truly believe that martial arts is for everyone and with the assistance of H+L Hope, A GTMA Foundation, we have an instructor manual on how to best assist and teach students based on different abilities. No one should be denied the wonderful journey of martial arts due to ensuring their inclusivity needs are being met. We have had students from autism through limb difference and wheelchairs and are happy to talk with you on how to best work with your child.
H+L Hope applications are placed for submission every quarter. If what the nonprofit offers can better help your martial artists journey, please see an instructor to work through this application process.
We would love to help you have an exciting and fun work event. Our instructors can use their knowledge of martial arts to work with you and cater to what type of work event you would like to host. We can teach everything from basic techniques to a SHARP style class, just let us know what your goals are and we will come up with an amazing lesson plan that will surely be a team buidling exercise to remember.
We understand that illness and travel can interrupt getting your two classes per week in to stay on track with our testing cycle. If that happens, talking to an instructor about your planned travel or reaching out if the student is sick helps us be aware.
Instead of our minimum two classes per week, coming in three times per week until they are caught up is their best way to ensure they get back on track with the testing cycle.
Yes! We absolutely do! Birthday parties are done on Saturday afternoons. We help set up, clean up, and provide the tables and chairs needed for you and your guests.
